The Records of theSynagogue Council of America (SCA) documents the lifespan (1926-1982, with afew documents from 1990-1992; the organization disbanded in 1994) andactivities of the joint Reform, Conservative, and Orthodox Jewish communities'efforts in coordinating Jewish life and activities in America. The collectioncontains correspondence, photographs, and ephemera including photographs ofMartin Luther King, Jr., Edward Kennedy, and Presidents Eisenhower, Truman, andJohnson, along with Eleanor Roosevelt. Of particular interest is correspondenceand photographs documenting the removal, reconsecration, or burial of ritualSynagogue items for repatriation from Europe to the U.S. and South Americaafter WWII; also contains information on damaged synagogues inFrance.
